IVY Berlin wants to help!
We are making 2 types of masks! Hospital masks and funky masks!
Each hospital mask will be made from a tightly woven poly/cotton mix with an extra pocket for an optional filter and straps to tie (see last pic). The funky masks are for you!
How can you help? We’ve created a new product on our website called “Mask Donations” for you! You decide how much you’re able to donate — anything helps. We’re estimating the cost of one mask to be around 4€. If you donate at least 20€, we’ll send you an IVY style mask too! These masks are made from our freakiest fabrics and stretchy ties for a comfortable fit with a pocket for a filter. (See pics 1-3.)
Shipping times may vary due to delays with the Deutsche Post. Shipping may take 10 business days.
Please read our Q & A’s for more info.
Q: Are these masks N95?
A: No, they are not. Of course, N95 masks are what medical professionals SHOULD be using in this time of need. However, due to global shortages there aren’t enough to go around. Our masks are however much better than using nothing! They also free up the N95 masks for people who truly need them. My friend, a nurse in the US, even shared that many nurses are being asked to use scarves or bandannas for protection!
Q: Where does the money go?
A: Your money goes towards: fabric, paying our workers, and to our rent to make sure we can continue with this project! We estimate that one mask will cost 4 Euros, but we can produce them for a bit less if we are able to make a large quantity! We will update you continually to tell you how much money we have raised and how many masks we have donated!
Q: Where are the masks going?
A: One batch has already been delivered to the Sunshinehouse in Neukölln, a homeles shelter in Berlin. Another has been shipped off to a hospital in Maine. Yet anotehr will go to the German Red Cross very soon. Because the pandemic is a fluid situation, additional batches will be donated to legitimate health care organizations that are soliciting donations.
Q: Can I get more than one funky mask for me?
A: Of course! Just add the mask donation “product” on ivyberlin.org to your cart with a donation of 20 Euros – you can do this as many times as you’d like for as many masks as you would like.
Q: Can your workers stay safe while sewing these?
A: Yes! We work with three women who have home studios — they want to help and could use the funds to get through this tough time!
